About Me

Hi there, I'm Barry Hughes, publisher of Chronic Pain Alternatives. This site came about because as a psychologist, I've worked with a lot of people who have problems with chronic pain. I've seen what they have to go through, the problems getting a clear diagnosis or effective treatment. In looking for resources for them, I decided there was a need for objective and thorough information on traditional and alternative ways of managing pain.

While I have a lot of experience working with people who have chronic pain, I don't perceive myself as being some kind of ultimate expert. I think of myself as more of a resource, a coach, someone who can take a bunch of technical information and translate it into something that you can understand and use.

On the personal side, I have a pretty regular life. I'm left handed with a wife, two grown daughters and two dogs. We've had our own experiences with pain, and have personal experience with a lot of the techniques and products discussed here.

As you can probably tell from the rest of this site, I always try to go back to the idea that we are not focusing just on "getting rid of pain." My real focus is on helping people lead their most productive and happy lives.

I hope you find the site helpful; I enjoy putting it together. I'll be adding content on a consistent basis. While I invite you to come back on a regular basis, the reality is that you're a busy person.

To have the best chance of keeping up, try subscribing to my RSS feed, and/or sign-up for my monthly ezine, The Chronic Pain Update. (The box for the ezine is in the top left corner of the page.)

About This Site

This site reflects my passion for helping people with chronic pain. The beauty of web publishing is that you can turn your interests and passions into a website, and ultimately a business.

Question 1. What did it take to get me, someone with no website building experience from being just interested to being in business on the web?

Answer 1. A lot of false starts, following the latest trend or fad that promised "get rich quick."

Answer 2. The Ultimate "right solution" for me, Site Build It! (SBI)

I've given some thought to the idea of whether working from home can be a good option for people with chronic pain. I've taken those thoughts and put them together into an article on working at home with chronic pain.
